‘AMAZING
RACE’ WINNER SPEAKS OUT AT ABBEY PRESS CONFERENCE
DISCRIMINATION CLAIM BECAUSE OF SEXUAL ORIENTATION
March 17, 2005 -- (Los Angeles) -- Reichen
Burke was on hand at a press conference held at The Abbey
Food & Bar in West Hollywood along with the mayor and
Civil Rights attorney, John Duran and owner David Cooley.
On February 22, Mr. Burke received a "30 day notice
of intent" letter from the owner of Progressive Ventures
in Vacaville, California, who has been printing Reichen's
posters for the past few months. In the letter sent to Mr.
Burke, it mentioned that in 30 days, Progressive Ventures
will no longer be able to print his posters because "I
learned you are homosexual, and your web-site is helping
to promote a homosexual lifestyle.” wrote Mark Jones,
owner of the company.
"We need to have protection against this kind of discrimination
in the workplace and in business." explains Reichen.
"The posters he was selling had no offensive writing
nor were they offensive in any manner. Mr. Jones blatantly
refused to sell any more posters based solely on my sexual
orientation and nothing more."
